Health care jobs

tracksIt is a difficult decision for most people to narrow down career choices to a few selections that interest them. After all, a career choice is typically a life-long decision. If you are just starting down the path of choosing a career, or if you are looking for a career change, the process can be overwhelming. How do you decide what you want to be?

When trying to determine what career may be right for you, first lists your likes and dislikes. Do you like to work around people? Do you prefer solitude?  Many of these questions can help you narrow your search to career choices for which you would be best suited. Talk to people you know in various careers and find out what they actually do. You may be surprised at the insight you will glean from such conversations. Many people start down one path, only to find that particular career was not right for them. Some thorough research in the beginning is well worth the effort, as this can save you time and money preparing for a career for which you are not suited.  The good news is there are so many opportunities available, especially in healthcare.

Look at me.  I’ve been a prison nurse, an OR nurse, a nurse for a neurosurgeon, a nurse for an OB/GYN, and now I work as a rep for an medical supply company.

Health care jobs are in high demand now and will be in the future. Maybe it’s not just nursing which peaks your interest, but radiology, pharmacology, or some other allied healthcare field. Healthcare management is another avenue available to those more interested in the business aspect of healthcare. All hospitals have CEOs and all physicians’ offices have managers. One of our hospitals in our town was recently bought out by a for-profit company and the interim CEO they installed is a woman who started off as an RN long ago!  In the past on of our VPs at the hospital was a former lab tech.

The medical bills that we all love receiving is processed by medical coders who can either work for physicians or hospitals or billing companies on a commision basis.. The healthcare field holds a variety of opportunities.

My point here is that you are not limited only to clinical jobs in the healthcare industry.

The healthcare industry is one of the fastest growing job markets today. The medical field is so rewarding because you are part of a team helping care for other people, even if you are not involved with direct patient care.

Talk to nurses, doctors, pharmacy techs, receptionist, managers, physical therapist etc. There are a myriad of healthcare workers. Check out an online forum if you don’t know anyone in the healthcare industry. Another option is just tweet me @nursejennifer, I’ll be glad to help you as much as I can.
