I was talking to my friend @nursewendy yesterday when she told me she had just recently been slimed by an NG tube. That’s nursey talk for a tube that is placed down someone’s nose into their stomach. (NG is short for naso-gastric, get it?) Of course I laughed at her hysterically as this is both entertaining and gross at the same time. Then it hit me, as I was making fun of her. This was not uncommon at all in the medical field. We nurses get hit with gook all of the time!! Be it blood, puke, poop, pus, nose slime or whatever else nasty thing you can think of, we are going to get covered in something eventually! And we do it while caring for our patients.
So be nice to your nurse. They may end up wearing your secretions in the line of duty while caring for you.
PS, That’s a pic of Wendy, having just washed her hair after being slimed at the ICU. All in a day’s work.
