What is RSS?
RSS (which stands for “Rich Site Summary” by the way) is a method of getting the latest updates from your favorite sites or blogs without having to visit them all individually to see what’s new. First you sign up for a “reader” program and then it gathers the new posts or information for you and delivers it where you want it most – to your phone, your computer or your e-mail. It will only update once so you won’t be inundated with information, but will allow you to look at some of your favorite news off-line if you want, while traveling for instance.
Why should I use RSS?
You may visit a website or blog everyday or several times a day, and find that there are no new posts or content. An RSS reader will update automatically with new posts so you can have several of your favorite websites or blogs on one “dashboard” and a quick glance will show you which have new content that you haven’t yet read.
What might I miss if I use RSS only and not visit the blog?
Some RSS readers do not display media content such as images or videos. Also many RSS readers will not display comments to a post, which are often as enlightening or entertaining as the original post itself. So remember, don’t only read the blog posts in your reader. Many people decide to click on the blog title post in their reader which will generally open up the post in their internet browser so they can view media and comments.
So what “reader” should you use?
By pressing on our link you will go through Feedburner and you can use FeedBurner from this site to deliver your NursesPTO updates. You will be offered many different choices for readers including Google, Yahoo and AOL readers. Pick one of the suggested readers and then get started. If you have email with either Google, Yahoo, or AOL, it might be easier to use their readers. The blog updates are free as are most of the aggregator programs.
